Medical Marijuana & Your Rights

Arkansas voters approved medical marijuana because we recognize that families, veterans, and patients deserve safe options for relief from pain, PTSD, cancer treatments, and other serious health conditions.

But here’s the problem: under federal law, medical marijuana is still treated as a Schedule I controlled substance — the same as heroin. That outdated classification forces Arkansas patients into an impossible choice:

This is wrong. It is unfair, it is inconsistent, and it is government overreach.

Patients who take doctor-prescribed opioids, antidepressants, or anxiety medications face no such restrictions. Yet a veteran who turns to medical marijuana for PTSD is told they cannot legally buy a firearm. This is a double standard that punishes the people who need compassion the most.

How I Will Fight This — Even as a State Representative

Some may ask, “But what can a State Representative do about a federal issue?” The answer: Plenty.

As your State Representative, I will:

  1. Push Arkansas to pass a resolution urging Congress to reclassify marijuana so it is recognized for legitimate medical use. States have done this before, and it sends a strong signal to Washington when state legislatures demand action.
  2. Advocate for our veterans and patients by working directly with our federal delegation — Arkansas has four U.S. Representatives and two Senators. I will be a strong voice urging them to fight this double standard in Congress.
  3. Defend state sovereignty by ensuring that Arkansas laws on medical marijuana are respected and that patients are not unfairly punished when they follow state law.
  4. Educate and mobilize Arkansans to make their voices heard. Washington too often ignores the people until the people rise up together. I will make sure Arkansans’ voices are amplified.

My Commitment

I believe in medical freedom. I believe in the Second Amendment. And I believe no Arkansan should ever be forced to surrender one right in order to exercise another.

Washington may be slow to act, but Arkansas does not have to stay silent. As your Representative, I will take this fight to the floor of our State House and make sure our veterans, our patients, and our families are not ignored.

This is not about left or right. This is about freedom, fairness, and common sense.

💬 What do you think? Should law-abiding Arkansans lose their right to own a firearm simply for following their doctor’s recommendation?
